Description
Antique Sarough carpets are woven in the cities of Kashan and Sarough. During the Safavid era, Kashan was an important centre for carpet production, and the carpets woven there were among the finest in the world. The city of Kashan is located in the province of Isfahan in central Iran. It lies at an altitude of 1,590 metres above sea level, in the foothills of the Karkas Mountains. Kashan is one of the oldest cities in the Orient, and its history dates back to the early Bronze Age. The city was an important centre of the Persian Empire and was the capital of the province of Persis from the Achaemenid period to the Parthian period.
