Gabbeh rugs are hand-knotted in Iran and India. The name "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic style. Since the early 1990s, they have been popular as a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs, which are often associated with formal interior design. Gabbehs have a thick, luxurious pile, many colours and feature cool, geometric and animal motifs, abstract or representational. Usually made of wool, they vary in size from small mats to large carpets and fit into any room in the house.
