Gabbeh rugs from Iran and India have been popular since the 1990s as a relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs. They have a thick, luxurious pile and offer a variety of colours and bold geometric or animal patterns, often abstract or figurative with motifs of animals or people. Mostly made of wool, occasionally cotton or other materials, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and fit into any room in the house.
