Gabbeh, the Farsi word for "raw", describes rustic rugs that have been increasingly popular since the early 1990s. They offer a more relaxed, folksy alternative to traditional Persian rugs and are characterised by thick pile, diverse colours and bold geometric patterns. These rugs often feature abstract or representational motifs such as animals or people and are made from wool or occasionally cotton.
