Gabbeh means "raw" in Farsi and refers to simple, rustic carpets. Since the early 1990s, they have become increasingly popular as a relaxed, folk alternative to traditional Persian carpets. Gabbeh carpets are characterised by thick, luxurious pile, a variety of colours and bold, geometric patterns. The patterns can be abstract or representational, often featuring depictions of animals or people. Gabbeh rugs are usually made of wool, sometimes cotton, and come in a variety of sizes to suit any room.
