Gabbeh means "raw" in Farsi and refers to simple, rustic carpets. They have gained popularity since the 1990s as a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian carpets. Gabbeh carpets have a thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold, geometric patterns that can be abstract or representational, often depicting animals or people. Mostly made of wool, sometimes cotton or other materials, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and fit into any room.
