Gabbeh, Persian for "raw", are simple, rustic rugs that have become increasingly popular since the 1990s as relaxed, folk alternatives to traditional Persian rugs. They have thick pile, diverse colours and bold geometric patterns, often abstract or figurative with animals or people. Mostly made of wool, some of cotton or other materials, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and are suitable for any room in the house.
