Description
Unlike hand-knotted carpets, kilim carpets are woven by hand without a thick wool pile, making them flatter and rougher. This makes them cheaper to produce. They are lighter and can be used on both sides, which increases their flexibility. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are typically characterised by simple, linear patterns created by a special weaving technique.
