Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. As a result, they do not have a raised wool pile and are often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. This weaving technique is less labour-intensive, which makes the rugs considerably less expensive. Another advantage of kilim rugs is their low weight, which makes them easier to handle. They can also be laid out on both the front and back sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but nowadays they are also widely produced in Afghanistan. Kilim rugs are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique. These rugs are popular because of their craftsmanship and versatility.
