Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand without a high wool pile, making them flatter and rougher. This manufacturing method makes them less expensive and lighter, as they can be used on both sides. Originally from ancient Persia, they are now mainly produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique. This gives them an authentic and traditional charm. Kilim rugs are therefore not only practical and versatile, but also culturally significant, as they combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design requirements.
