Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile, making them flatter and rougher. This simplified manufacturing method results in lower costs and a lighter weight, making them usable on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also frequently produced in Afghanistan. Kelim rugs are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the weaving technique. These rugs are both culturally and aesthetically valuable and offer an authentic way to integrate traditional craftsmanship into modern living spaces.
