Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a raised pile of wool and are therefore often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. This less labour-intensive manufacturing method generally makes them significantly less expensive. Another advantage is that kilim rugs are much lighter and can be used on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but nowadays they are also often made in Afghanistan. The rugs are characterised by simple, linear patterns, which are due to their special weaving technique.
