Description
Unlike hand-knotted carpets, kilim carpets are woven by hand without a thick wool pile, making them flatter and rougher. They are less labour-intensive to produce and therefore less expensive. Another advantage is their low weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
