Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. This means they do not have a raised pile and are often flatter and rougher. This method of production is less labour-intensive, which makes kilim rugs more affordable. Another advantage is their low weight, which means they can be used on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia and are now also produced in Afghanistan. Kilims are typically characterised by simple, linear patterns created by the weaving technique.
