Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher, which makes them cheaper to produce. Their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides make them easy to care for and prevent washing problems over the years. Originally from ancient Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their simple, linear patterns are characteristic of the weaving technique used in their manufacture.
