Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted varieties in that they are hand-woven. They are characterised by a flat, less dense pile and are often more rustic. This weaving technique makes them less expensive and lighter than traditional wool rugs. Another advantage is their reversibility, as they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their patterns are mostly simple and geometric, directly influenced by the weaving technique. Kilim rugs are attractive to lovers of natural materials and traditional craftsmanship, as they are an authentic alternative to the more elaborate knotted rugs.
