Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted varieties in that they are woven by hand. As a result, they lack the typical woolly pile and are usually flatter and more robust. Their production is less complex, which often makes them more cost-effective. One advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also frequently produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are determined by the weaving technique.
