Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted varieties in that they are hand-woven, which means they do not have a high wool pile and are often flatter and more rustic. These rugs are less complex to manufacture, which generally makes them more affordable. One advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are typically characterised by simple, linear patterns created by their weaving technique.
