Kilim rugs are characterised by their hand-woven design, in contrast to hand-knotted variants. This means that they do not have a high wool pile and are typically flatter and more robust. Due to their less complex production, they are often less expensive. A significant advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from the Persian region, kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. Their designs are often simple and linear, due to the weaving technique.
