Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them typically flatter and more robust. Their production is less complex, which makes them more cost-effective. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by a special weaving technique.
