Description
Kilim rugs differ from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs and less expensive to produce. One advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their characteristic patterns are simple and straightforward, due to the weaving technique.
