Description
Kilim rugs differ from traditional hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven. They are characterised by a flatter and rougher texture, as they do not have a high pile of wool. This generally makes them cheaper to produce and allows them to be lighter. Another advantage is that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilim rugs are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are known for their simple, linear patterns, which are created using a special weaving technique.
