Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high pile of wool. This makes them typically flatter and more robust than knotted wool rugs. Their production is less complex, which generally makes them more affordable. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. Kilim rugs are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
