Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them typically flatter and rougher, which also leads to lower production costs. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from ancient Persia, kilims are now also frequently produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
