Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This often makes them flatter and rougher, which allows them to be produced more cost-effectively. An additional advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from ancient Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are typically characterised by simple, linear patterns created by a special weaving technique.
