Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This generally makes them cheaper to produce. Kilim rugs are also lighter and can be used on both sides, which increases their versatility. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
