Description
Kilim rugs differ from hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven, which means they do not have a raised wool pile and are flatter and rougher. This makes them less labour-intensive and cheaper to produce than knotted wool rugs. Another advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are determined by the weaving technique.
