Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a raised pile of wool. This makes them typically flatter and rougher, which leads to lower production costs. Another advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. Their simple, linear patterns are created using a special weaving technique.
