Description
Kilim rugs are hand-woven rugs, as opposed to hand-knotted rugs, and are characterised by their flat, rough texture without a high wool pile. This method of production is less labour-intensive and therefore less expensive. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. They are known for their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the weaving technique.
