Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven, do not have a high wool pile and are often flatter and rougher. This makes them cheaper to produce. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by their special weaving technique.
