Description
Kilim rugs differ from hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven without a thick wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. Their less elaborate construction allows for more cost-effective production. They are lighter and more versatile, as they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also frequently manufactured in Afghanistan. Their designs are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by the special weaving technique.
