Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand without a high wool pile, making them flatter and rougher. This simplified manufacturing method results in lower costs. They are lighter and more versatile as they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are also produced extensively in Afghanistan. Their designs are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by the weaving technique. Kelims thus offer not only a cultural connection to historical craftsmanship, but also practical advantages in modern living spaces due to their flexibility and aesthetics.
