Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a high pile of wool and are often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Due to their less complex construction, they are usually significantly less expensive. Another advantage of kilim rugs is that they are much lighter and can be used on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originate from former Persia and are now also frequently manufactured in Afghanistan. Their simple, linear patterns are a direct result of their special weaving technique. These rugs combine traditional craftsmanship with practicality and an appealing, timeless design.
