Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted varieties in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile, making them flatter and rougher. This simpler manufacturing process makes them cheaper and lighter, and allows them to be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also frequently manufactured in Afghanistan. They are typically characterised by simple, linear patterns, which are determined by the weaving technique. Kilims are known for their robust construction and are well suited to a variety of interior designs, from traditional to modern.
