Description
Kilim rugs are characterised by their hand-woven production, in contrast to hand-knotted rugs with raised wool pile. They are flatter, rougher and generally less expensive due to their less complex construction. Their lightness and the possibility of using them on both sides make them particularly practical. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their simple, linear patterns are characteristic of these rugs and are created using a special weaving technique.
