Description
Kilim carpets differ significantly from hand-knotted carpets in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This makes them cheaper to produce and lighter in weight. One advantage is that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also frequently manufactured in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
