Description
Kilim rugs, which are hand-woven as opposed to hand-knotted, are characterised by a flat, rough texture without raised wool pile. Due to the less complex manufacturing process, they are often less expensive. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. Their typical linear patterns are created using a special weaving technique.
