Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a raised wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs and often less expensive. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, hand-woven kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
