Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a raised wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher than knotted varieties and often less expensive to produce. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, hand-woven kilims are now also manufactured in Afghanistan. Their designs are influenced by the weaving technique and tend to feature simple, linear patterns.
