Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a raised pile of wool and are often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Due to their less elaborate construction, they are significantly less expensive. Another advantage is that kilim rugs are much lighter and can be used on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but are now also frequently manufactured in India. Their patterns are rather simple and straightforward, which is due to the special weaving technique.
