Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a raised pile of wool and are therefore flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Their less elaborate construction generally makes them significantly less expensive. Another advantage is that kilim rugs are much lighter and can be laid out on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but today they are also often made in India. They are characterised by rather simple and straightforward patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
