Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven without a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This makes them less expensive and lighter, allowing them to be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also produced in India. Their simple, linear patterns are the result of a special weaving technique.
