Kilim rugs are fundamentally different from hand-knotted rugs because they are woven by hand without a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher than ordinary wool rugs and often less expensive. They are lighter and can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now mainly produced in India. Their simple, linear patterns are created using a special weaving technique.
