Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven, without a thick wool pile, making them flatter and rougher. Their production is less complex and therefore often less expensive. Kilim rugs are lighter and more versatile as they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, and now also from Afghanistan, they are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by the weaving technique.
