Description
Kilim rugs differ from hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven. As a result, they do not have a raised pile of wool and are often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. The less complex manufacturing process usually makes them significantly cheaper. Another advantage of kilim rugs is their lightness, which means they can be used on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but today they are also frequently manufactured in Afghanistan. Their simple, linear patterns are created using a special weaving technique. Kilim rugs are a practical and inexpensive alternative to more traditional wool rugs.
