Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher to the touch. Their production is less complex and therefore generally less expensive. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides, which minimises washing problems. Originally from Persia, hand-woven kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the weaving technique.
