These kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted variants as they are woven by hand. They do not have a high wool pile and are often flatter and rougher. Their production is less complex, so they are usually less expensive. One advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from ancient Persia, kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by simple, linear patterns, which are created by their weaving technique.
