Description
These kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. As a result, they do not have a fluffy wool pile and are often flatter and rougher. Their production is less complex, so they are generally less expensive. One advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originated in ancient Persia and are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by simple, linear patterns, which are determined by the weaving technique used.
