Description
Hand-woven kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they do not have a thick wool pile and are often flatter and rougher. They are less complex to manufacture, which generally makes them more affordable. One advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by simple, linear patterns, which are determined by their weaving technique.
