Gabbeh carpets are hand-knotted in Iran and India. The name means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic style. Since the 1990s, they have been popular as a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian carpets, which have a formal appearance. Gabbehs have a dense pile, many colours and feature cool geometric or animal motifs, abstract or figurative. Mostly made of wool on wool, they vary in size from small mats to large carpets and fit into any room in the house.
