Gabbeh rugs are hand-knotted rugs from Iran and India. "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic style. Since the 1990s, they have been popular as a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs, which often complement formal interiors. Gabbehs have a thick, luxurious pile, many colours and feature cool geometric or animal motifs, abstract or representational. Mostly made of wool, they vary in size from small mats to large carpets and fit into any room in the house.
